The Daughters of St. Paul, also known as the Media Sisters, are an international Catholic religious congregation. Founded in 1915 by Blessed James Alberione and Mother Thecla Merlo in Italy, they have since grown in mission and reach. Above all, their purpose is to evangelize through various forms of media, continually adapting modern communication tools to spread the Gospel.
Formation Process
The process of religious profession among the Daughters of St. Paul involves several stages:
Inquiry
Candidates begin their journey by connecting with the community, which lays the groundwork for spiritual exploration. They participate in vocation retreats that deepen their understanding of religious life and help them discern their calling. Alongside these retreats, candidates engage in group discussions that foster a supportive environment for sharing experiences and insights. They find inspiration in the stories of others who have walked similar paths, allowing them to envision their future in religious life. Ongoing conversations with a vocation director provide essential guidance, encouraging deeper reflection on their journeys and helping to solidify their commitment. This comprehensive approach ensures that candidates are well-prepared to embrace their vocation with confidence and clarity.
“Come and see for yourself!”
Postulancy
After initial contact, those who feel called to continue are invited to enter the Postulancy phase, which lasts two years. During this time, Postulants gradually integrate into the community’s daily rhythm, enhancing their understanding of the life they are choosing. Furthermore, they engage in deepening their prayer life and spend time reflecting on their vocational journey within the congregation.
“Deepen your prayer life and reflect on your journey with us!”
Novitiate (2 years)
The novitiate stage introduces a focused period of study on the congregation’s constitutions and spiritual formation. At the end of this phase, novices make their first profession of vows—chastity, poverty, and obedience.
“Embark on a journey of growth!”
Juniorate (5-7 years)
With the first profession complete, sisters enter the Juniorate. In this period, they receive apostolic assignments and continue their theological and philosophical studies. Sisters renew their vows annually until they reach the point of making their perpetual profession.
Perpetual Profession
The sister makes a lifelong commitment, consecrating herself entirely to God. Through her final vow, she dedicates herself to the mission of the Daughters of St. Paul. She embraces a life of service and faith. In doing so, she commits to her role within the congregation for life.
“Live your calling fully and joyfully!”
